Yeah I’ve been pretty bad about keeping this blog up to date but what can I say, it ain’t easy out here for KD….
Anywho, Cuba was awesome once again. We didn’t do too much different then the last time, which was just enjoy the city and it’s people, the weather and beaches, and of course, the music for 5 days. The weather gods weren’t the best to us once again, we got in one good beach day but the other days were somewhat overcast so we spent a lot of the time in the city. We did a ton of walking and I think Sumeet and I know the old Havana streets as good as anyone. The usual stops in the Partagas store, Castillo de Farnes sidewalk cafe for the usual mojito and cigar and some of the best people watching you’ll ever come across. I’m a huge fan of Cuban music, particularly the traditional son music, I absolutely love it and you can hear it all around the city.
We met up with our friend Nakamura the first night. We ended up meeting him at the “Cafe del Oriente” restaurant in Old Habana, we had no clue it was Havanas most expensive restaurant but we had a great meal and we caught up a bit. We took advantage of the weather the next day and went to the Santa Maria Playa just 15minutes east of Havana. The beaches there are awesome and almost as nice as Varadero. I always highly recommend staying in Havana and going to the east beaches instead of Varadero. Cubans don’t consider Varadero to be real ‘Cuba’. Most Cubans are not allowed, its for tourists only. Stay at a ‘casa particular’ and get into the city, its amazing.
All in all it was another excellent trip and a great break from the rat-race back home. It was my 4th trip there in the last 2 years so it’ll be a while before we go back. Many more places to visit, but we’ll no doubt be back at some point.
Whenever I’m feeling stressed, I close my eyes and I can imagine myself in a Havana bar, sipping a mojito, enjoying a cigar and listening to some Cuban music…..
